AFSCME Local 526, which represents the workers of the Milwaukee Public Museum, stands in solidarity with the working people of the Milwaukee Art Museum in their fight for a union. As museum workers, we have also felt the deep inequities of this industry and understand that workers coming together to negotiate over wages, benefits, and working conditions with the employer is the most effective way to bring economic justice to an otherwise deeply privileged industry. Along with the fight for economic justice, unions fight for the rights of all workers and can address disparate workplace outcomes for workers of color, workers with disabilities, LGBTQ workers, and those who are otherwise vulnerable. We look forward to a working class victory at MAM and encourage the Milwaukee labor community to amplify and support this courageous organizing effort.
